Totally off (baking) topic.. but amusing…

I live in Atlanta. And normally that resonates with the Braves, Turner TV, Delta, Home Depot, Coca-cola, etc, but lately its translated to GAS CRISIS. At this point in time my husband and I have been fortunate enough to regularly come across gas stations with fuel, but yesterday we did end up waiting for just over an hour to get a full tank. All the gas stations near us were totally empty. So we checked our local new station’s web site where they have this gas finder link and we saw that some stations north of us had residents reporting gas recently. We trucked on up. We passed many vacant stations, but finally came across one that had multiple cars there, and NO LINE. We drove on in and when we inquired why these people were there, we were told that the gas station is expecting a delivery before 10pm (its 8pm at this time). There’s only 2 spots left next to actual gas pumps, and we take one. Here’s the sweet folks to the left of us:

and incase its hard to see, here’s a closer shot:

They’ve come prepared with lawn chairs and playing cards. They mean BUSINESS.  Behind us and to the left, here’s a sweet lady catching up on some knitting as she’s patiently waiting for gas:

What was also really funny (and sweet) was that we were next to a Steak-and-Shake and the staff was coming over and taking our orders, not to mention giving some really considerate deals to everyone.  Some people had been waiting since 5pm, and some people, like the guy below, had been waiting there since 11AM WITH NOT A DROP OF GAS IN HIS TANK. He was totally banking on the fact that the tanker would show up.  As you can see in the photo, he finally did, and everyone was overjoyed.  We all clapped.  It was so moving and so lame all at the same time. The ironic part is that the tanker should have been there hours ago, we were told, but he had broken down on the interstate coming in and how to wait for help.  (hopefully not an empty gas tank!) And then he was lost since this is apparently not his normal region. We were just so glad to see him!

So we only had to wait an hour and 15 minutes for the tanker to arrive, but that guy waiting 10 HOURS. sheesh! The girl to our right is in nursing school and was studing for a test.  The black lexus that you see in the above picture was playing tennis with someone else.  It was so bizarre to just hang out at the gas station.  Everyone was in great spirits, though.  And as was expected, as soon as the tankers are spotted, the lines start to form…

absolute craziness!
